OpenWebUI
chatUpdate 07/2026: Important licensing change: since v0.6.6 (April 2025) OpenWebUI is no longer plain open source. The own "Open WebUI License" (BSD-3 plus branding/anti-endorsement clause, with CLA) is not OSI-conformant, and white-labeling requires an enterprise license (license docs).
Development itself remains very active (v0.8.x with terminal integration, enterprise OAuth, SBOM attestation). For internal self-hosted chat deployments this changes little - but evaluate the license before any commercial or white-label scenario. LibreChat remains a fully MIT-licensed alternative.
OpenWebUI is an open-source, extensible, feature-rich AI platform for interacting with various Large Language Models (LLMs). It provides a user-friendly, customizable chat-like interface for interacting with AI models. It is a self-hosted AI platform designed to operate entirely offline.
